Abbadia San Salvatore was the most powerful Tuscan abbey of the Middle Ages, strategic center that from the ninth century controlled the transit on the Via Francigena. The Abbey has an extremely particular architectural structure, consisting of two facade towers, a high presbytery and a large, famous crypt from the Lombard period supported by finely carved columns.
